What is an Indian Medical Visa?
India's Medical Visa (also called MED Visa) is a special visa category designed specifically for foreigners who seek medical treatment in India. It is issued to patients coming for allopathic, homeopathic, naturopathic, or other recognized medical treatments from recognized/reputed hospitals in India.
The Medical Attendant Visa (MED-X) is issued to the accompanying family members — up to two attendants can accompany the patient.

Processing typically takes 3–5 business days. Once approved, you can travel to India for your treatment.
Important Notes
- A Medical Visa cannot be converted into any other type of visa from within India.
- The visa can be extended by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in case of prolonged treatment.
- Attendant Visa holders cannot work in India during their stay.
- Ensure you register with the FRRO within 14 days of arrival if your stay exceeds 180 days.
- Keep all original medical documents with you at all times during your travel.
